Science museum with a difference
Mike Dernie has been the PR consultant to Thinktank, Birmingham's award-winning science museum at Millennium Point, since 2000. He masterminded the hugely successful launch in September 2001 and the opening of the UK's first purpose built digital Planetarium at Thinktank in December 2005. Mike continues to advise Thinktank on all aspects of PR. Thinktank has ten permanent exhibition galleries with more than 250 interactive exhibits. It was Discovery Centre of the Year in 2003 and was shortlisted for the £100,000 Gulbenkian Prize for Museum of the Year 2004.

Making the Point
Mike was also lead PR consultant for the launch of Millennium Point itself, England's biggest Millennium project outside London and a centre for science, technology, learning and entertainment. He has subsequently been retained to provide corporate PR services for Millennium Point in conjunction with his role for Thinktank, its main visitor attraction.

Reclaiming Elgar
Dernie Associates was retained by Audiences Central to deliver the PR campaign for 'Reclaiming Elgar', a project that aimed to change public perceptions of England's most popular composer and reclaim him as a West Midlands icon. The campaign climaxed on 2 June 2007, the 150th anniversary of Elgar's birth. The project partners were Performances Birmingham, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Elgar Foundation and Visit Worcester.

A portrait of success
Mike Dernie is the international PR and sponsorship consultant to Amsterdam-based artist Norman Perryman, renowned for his portraits of classical music celebrities and for his kinetic art performances with orchestras, instrumentalists and dance companies. Mike is currently working on events and activities in celebration of Norman's 75th birthday.
